Failed slip test before handover: rectify and retest
A failed slip test before handover means the installed floor is below the specified rating. Do not hand it over. Send the report; we recommend whichever treatment works on that covering, do the works, then retest before practical completion. We work across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
What the test and the report actually cover
Handover packs ask for a slip resistance certificate, a slip test certificate, or a slip test report. Those three labels get used as if they were the same sheet of paper. They are not.
Pendulum test on a new floor
A pendulum test on a new floor measures the covering as it sits after installation: locations, slider type, wet conditions, and a P-rating for each spot. Once the floor is down it is an existing pedestrian surface, so the usual method is AS 4663. The unused material’s AS 4586 classification does not stand in for that visit. Construction dust, sealer, grout haze and the first clean all belong in the reading.
Slip test report
A slip test report is the measurement document. It records where the pendulum was swung, what it read, and the notes the tester wrote. That is what a superintendent, certifier or occupier can file against the specified P-rating. Photos of a new floor help a contractor later; they do not replace the table of results.
Slip resistance certificate vs test report
Calling the same PDF a slip resistance certificate or a slip test certificate does not change what it is, and it does not turn a contractor works docket into a rating. SlipRectify does not issue a compliance certificate. The works report describes what we did; a retest is a separate measurement. The handover pack should hold the pendulum report — not a treatment invoice dressed as proof the floor now meets the class.
If the floor fails before practical completion
Do not hand the floor over on a failed report. Send the AS 4663 or wet-pendulum PDF to a rectification contractor for an opinion — change cleaning, apply an anti-slip treatment, grind and profile, or replace the covering — then do the works and book a retest with SlipAudit before handover.
The lightest path that can still reach the specified rating is the one to take. A new floor can fail because residue is still on it; it can also fail because the covering cannot meet the class that was specified. The report tells you which conversation you are in. The full sequence sits on what to do after a failed slip test.
What SlipRectify does at this point
SlipRectify reads the slip test report you already have, writes a rectification opinion, quotes the works, carries them out across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and then arranges a retest as a separate step. Premrest is the contractor. We do not run a testing laboratory and we do not issue a compliance certificate.
If the tester has not sent the file yet, use the contact form or call 1300 207 915. A written opinion and a works quote still need the result — the PDF, or at least the locations and P-ratings from it. Pricing the test itself into a future package is on slip testing for tenders.
Questions that usually come next
What do I do after a failed slip test before handover?
A failed slip test before handover means the installed floor is below the specified rating. Do not hand it over. Send the report; we recommend whichever treatment works on that covering, do the works, then retest before practical completion.
Do I need a slip test before handover?
A slip test before handover is an on-site pendulum measurement of the installed floor, usually to AS 4663, so practical completion is not signed on an unmeasured covering. The product’s AS 4586 classification is not that measurement.
Is a slip resistance certificate the same as a slip test report?
A slip test report records the pendulum measurement; calling that document a slip resistance certificate or slip test certificate does not make it a contractor compliance certificate. File the test report. A works docket is not a substitute.
What does a pendulum test on a new floor cover?
A pendulum test on a new floor measures the covering as it sits after installation — locations, slider, wet conditions and P-ratings — not the AS 4586 classification of the unused material. Construction dust, sealer and the first clean all belong in that reading.
What happens if the slip test fails before practical completion?
If the slip test fails before practical completion, the next step is a rectification opinion — clean, anti-slip treatment, grind or replace — then a retest before handover. Do not hand the floor over on a failed report. See treatments and what to do after a failed slip test.
Can I hand over on a works report instead of a retest?
No. A works report describes what was done to the floor; a retest is a separate measurement and is what belongs in the handover pack. Until that new pendulum reading exists, nobody here will promise a pass.
More short answers sit on the FAQ. The quote sequence is on how failed slip-test rectification works.
